What can I do to help my pet sitter take the best care of my pets?
You can help me be a better friend to your pet by making sure there are no problems while you are away. Planning and preparation in the following areas will me do the best I can!
At our initial consultation we will talk about these things:
Tell me about all health problems your pet may have, major or minor, past or present.
Provide written verification that your pet is up to date on his/her vaccinations
Make sure your dog's collar fits snug, only two fingers need to fit under the collar. A snug fitted gentle leader or harness are your best options.
If your dog is not accustomed to walking on a leash, practice with him/her before you leave.
Make a list of your pet's favorite places to hide. This will prevent me from worrying if your pet is not where expected to be so I will know where to look.
Provide your own preferred method of flea control even if your pets are free of fleas. Fleas multiply quickly and can become a problem very rapidly.
If you own both dogs and cats, please do not ask me to care for just the dogs and not worry about the cats in order to save a few dollars. I take my job very seriously and my professionalism and ethical responsibility would not allow me to overlook your cat(s) in need of a clean litter box, new food, clean water, medication or even human interaction.
If your dog growls or snaps at me during my initial visit, please understand that I may ask you to make other arrangements for your dog during your absence.
Be honest about your pet's quirks. Please be specific if your dog is nervous when putting a leash on or your cat does not like his/her belly scratched. The more details I know about your pet, the more prepared I will beĀ to care for your pet.
